Tiger Woods Flying Solo At The Masters

After deciding to return to golf at the 2010 Masters, Tiger Woods will go it alone on his first outing. Sources close to the embattled golfer are saying that Woods’ wife Elin will not be in attendance at Augusta National, when her husband tees off on Thursday.

Returning to his familiar stumping ground after the five-month hiatus (due his extramarital affairs and sex scandal), Woods could have used the support of his wife for this coming out party. After a brief stay in “rehab” and a recent media rollout, Woods seems to be doing the right thing on his way back from those awful transgressions.

Elin’s return to the golf circuit would be ill-advised at this point and is something I think that was carefully orchestrated in her husband’s return. Mrs. Woods is a private woman; essentially one who did not care for the camera prior to her husband’s well publicized “transgressions”. Nothing will make this better for her, but hopefully this afforded privacy, away from the probing media heads will help her to heal.
The mood at the masters will be “mayhem” enough, although somewhat controlled, and is certainly no venue for the distraction of outside gossip and tabloid like photo frenzy. I think it’s one thing that Woods could do for his family and his peace of mind.
Although, nothing will prevent hecklers and the crude comments along Amen Corner this week, at least Elin and the kids will be spared. I hope that Tiger will use this opportunity to stage the comeback that will make this all go away. Let’s watch and wait as only time will tell.
