Tight England bowling restricted the West Indies to just 47 runs for the loss of two wickets in the middle session as the West Indies went to tea on 271-5.

Resuming from the lunch break on 224-3, the West Indies struggled for runs and before long they lost century maker Ramnaresh Sarwan for 107 with the score at 235. The little stroke maker chopped on to his stumps a delivery from Andrew Flintoff which was much too close to his body.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who resumed on nought, found it difficult to get the old ball away, but after England captain Andrew Strauss took the new ball and with Chanderpaul on 20, he was adjudged leg before wicket to Stuart Broad bowling from the southern end. After a brief consultation with batting partner Brendon Nash, Chanderpaul asked for the television referral, but the TV umpire upheld the on field umpire’s decision and Chanderpaul was forced to go with the score on 254.

Wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin joined Nash and the two pushed the score along with Ramdin unleashing three crisp offdrives in his total of 14 from 13 deliveries. Nash is not out nine.
