NBA Basketball Offensive Guru Chuck Daly Passes Away
May His Soul Rest In Peace
On Saturday, May 9, 2009, Legendary NBA Coach Chuck Daly passed away at the age of 78 after battling pancreatic cancer. Coach Daly led the Detroit Pistons to back-to-back NBA Championships and was the driving force behind the first USA Olympics “dream team” in basketball. Daly’s Pistons made the playoffs in all nine seasons he coached the team, reaching the Eastern Conference finals in five straight years. At a ceremony to honor Daly, former player Rick Mahon summed up his importance to the franchise in six words: “Without you, there wouldn’t be us.” Magic Johnson, who was covering the Cleveland Cavaliers versus the Atlanta Hawks half time show on ABC, said that he had fond memories of Coach Daly and remembered especially how her managed the egos on the “dream team”. Magic Johnson paid tribute to the late Coach saying that he was a class act. Coach George Karl was seen during the Denver Nuggets versus Dallas Mavericks game warming a commemorative pin in the late Coach’s honor. Rest In Peace Coach Daly …you will be sadly missed.
